Zay and Ellie experienced their first college class! Our family was invited to speak to first year medical students at UofI yesterday. The whole family came and our PKU doctor joined us! I'm so thankful for each of those students that we spoke to...They will someday care for kids and patients just like Zay and Ellie!!! What a great experience! And let's just say, Zay was NOT shy... His exact words after he FINALLY had a chance to hold the microphone... "This is going to be a little awkward..." (And my heart begins to race as I have NO idea what is about to come out of his mouth!!!) "I really, really, really like Superhero Legos!". Phew...dodged an embarrassing bullet there! ;)

We hosted Thanksgiving today...we had a fun time explaining to Zay and Ellie that people actually eat animals! ;) They have been 100% vegetarians their entire life...never have they tried a single piece of meat! This is such a hard concept to wrap their little minds around. Why in the world would people eat a cute little turkey!?! Ellie was completely horrified that our turkey didn't come with a head or feet!! Thankfully we made a turkey that was much more appetizing in their eyes! ;)

I had dinner with a couple friends last night...we had the discussion about how it feels like parenting is REEEALLY starting RIGHT NOW!! Sleepless nights and changing diapers is sooo exhausting, but man-oh-man, it does not get easier after they learn sleep or potty themselves! They turn into their independent little selves and start making decisions without our (present) guidance... This parenting stuff is getting REAL. We've had some hard discussions about behavior and kindness and expectations lately. It's not a matter of loving your kids, but loving them enough to do the hard work of disciplining! Phew...Lord help me. Seriously... My comfort is knowing that HE loves my kids even more than I do. And my heart is forever thankful that I have a strong man next to me...providing for our family in countless ways! Life is brutal...and beautiful!
