new pjs!

Last week we realized we had a slight problem...Isaiah had only 3 pairs of pajamas that fit him! Shane was having issues with me trying to squeeze him into sleepers, that didn't allow him to even straighten his legs! Ha...just kidding, kind of! :)

Since I work all week, I generally have my Fridays dedicated to laundry. So this means we need more than 3 pairs of pjs!! So, we headed out to find some new sleepers for our 'little' man. While in the Children's Place, Shane requests that we not buy him anything except 12 month clothes or bigger. So...that's what we did. When I held them up in the store - I knew he was going to swim in a 12 month sleeper...well - I was wrong! They fit him perfectly! Which unfortunately means he will outgrow them way too soon! The only thing that doesn't fit is the little footies - they are sized for a little 1 year old beginning to walk around! No matter what - our Zay looks pretty darn CUTE in his new pjs! :) LOVE HIM!!!

Gone!

The MRSA is GONE! Yippy!!!

Last Friday at Isaiah's 6 month appointment they re-tested him to see if there was any MRSA that he was still carrying. We got the results today....NONE at all!!

We are SOOO happy we don't have to deal with this anymore!! Thanks for all the kind thoughts, words and prayers! We appreciate them all!

Watch me grow!!!

Look at how much Isaiah has changed!! I get a little teary eyed looking at his 2 week old picture...where did my baby go!?!? He's a strong and sweet big boy now! I'm so happy to report that we had a great checkup today for his 6 month appointment. Dr. says he is looking great!

Weight: 21 lbs 12 oz (95th percentile)

Height: 27 in (60th percentile)

We get to cut out one of the breathing treatments he's on. YEA!!! Doing 2 treatments a day took up about 1/2 hour every morning, so this will be a relief to only have to do one!!

Next big change in Zay's life...we are going to try pears, peaches and puffs in the coming weeks! He does really well eating off the spoon. Can't wait to see how he likes new fruits and finger food.

6 Months Old!!

½ Year Old!

I cannot believe that our little boy is 6 months old today!

This morning I overheard Shane talking to Isaiah, telling him “Can you believe you’ve been outside of your mommy’s belly for 6 MONTHS already!?!?” I just had to laugh. I feel like I’m slowly forgetting what it was like to be pregnant. I always told Shane that I wasn’t one of those “glowing pregnant ladies”, but I have to admit, I’m so thankful that I got to experience being pregnant with our little Zay! I’ll never forget the highlights of Isaiah’s pregnancy and birth. Truly a miracle!

Isaiah has been changing so much lately. He is really getting very independent, but at the same time he is quite aware if you aren't in the same room as him! Usually letting us know if he’s just hanging out by himself. When he’s sitting on our laps, he’s a squirmy lil worm. And he’s always happy to be on the floor rolling around. He’s definitely learned the art of fighting sleep, and although sleeping through the night still isn’t happening, we couldn’t ask for a happier baby when he wakes up. Even in the middle of the night when he’s awake – he’s HAPPY! It’s hard to not play into his big smiley face...I just want to just love him up, but I also realize that 1am is not playtime and we better not start any habits!

Isaiah has been sitting up completely unassisted for awhile now. He also rolls in every direction…definitely mobile now, but not too fast yet. (Talk to me again in a week) :) He will scoot on his belly and gets himself all turned around trying to reach for his toys. We’ve started eating baby food this past month. We both usually end up a sticky mess after dinner time! He’s learned how to blow raspberries…and it’s too hard not to laugh at him when he does this while eating! This is usually encouraged by the parent who is NOT doing the feeding…yeah, I know we are mature and teaching very good table manners! :)

Isaiah officially got moved to a new car seat this last week. It’s a little bittersweet. Every morning I’d tell Zay “Heave Ho – In Ya Go” as I’d boost him into the car. So I’m happy to not have to lug that infant seat around anymore, but at the same time this just means he’s getting so big! Speaking of “so big”…this is definitely one of his favorite games. You get him started raising his hands above his head and he just wants to keep going!

We’ve really been enjoying our nightly walks…I’m hoping to get back into jogging with him, but right now it’s a little jogging, but mainly walking. We did a 5K together two weekends ago. A year ago I ran the same race, while I was 12 weeks pregnant with Zay and this year I walked it with him in the stroller! Maybe next year I will be back running it again! Zay really enjoys looking around on our walks and usually gets a good nap out of the deal. I think the fresh air has been good for his sleeping too!

I think that’s all the updates for now! We are really looking forward to an enjoyable summer with our boy! So many more changes to come!

Applesauce

This past week Isaiah tried applesauce to go along with his rice cereal for dinner...he wasn't sure what to think about it at first, but now seems to really like it!

He is currently eating 7 oz bottles every 3-4 hours, 1 tablespoon of rice cereal at lunch, 1 tablespoon of rice cereal and 1 tablespoon of applesauce at dinner. He's a growing boy!!

Isaiah's faces...

Isaiah makes all different kinds of faces...but the funniest these days is when he sucks his bottom lip in and makes his eyes really big! Cracks me up! :)

Eventually that cute little face returns to this great big smile! And look at those cute little teeth!

Breathing Treatments...

We do a lot of breathing treatments with Zay...and he is getting more and more curious and independent. This is great, except getting him to sit still for 10-15 minutes to do his treatment is quite the challenge! So far this is the only way I can seem to get him to not try to "help" me give the treatment...he simply puts the "tubing" in both hands and then bites down on it in his mouth. I think it must feel good on his teething gums! Not to worry...he is always supervised when we do this! :)

Reassuring news...

So after "freaking out" the last 24 hours about this whole MRSA issue, I called our doctor's office back this morning to get some more information...

First and foremost - Isaiah is NOT contagious. I had the nurse repeat this like 20 times. This was my biggest worry, especially since he has been at daycare. If he would have an open wound, we would have to keep it covered but you will not get MRSA just by holding him!

It is still important to use good hygiene practices, like washing hands often, etc. However, this is what ALL people should be doing anyway.

Another important thing to note...MRSA is everywhere! It's all over stores, restaurants, schools, bathrooms, hospitals, door handles, etc. It can show up anywhere and you wouldn't even know it. We have all been exposed to MRSA. It presents itself to be a problem when a person with a weakened immune system gets it in their system - hence Isaiah.

I guess I just wanted to clear the air about what is and isn't true about MRSA....particularly Isaiah's case. We do not know where Isaiah got it, but it very likely could be one of the many times he's been at a doctor's office - who knows. Isaiah will get re-tested in 3 weeks to see if he is still carrying it in his nose. If the test is negative, he's free and clear. Our doctor said he is hoping that this isn't a permanent thing. Pray for that!

News on Isaiah

We received some discouraging news this morning.

We got phone calls from both the Manchester clinic, as well as our doctor’s clinic.

The infection Isaiah had was in fact MRSA. Thank goodness we caught it early and he was switched to antibiotics that would respond to MRSA.

When we saw our doctor on Tuesday, he ran another culture to see if Isaiah is a carrier of MRSA. The test came back positive. This explains why he got the infection. Basically the bacteria Isaiah has on his body contains MRSA (we all have bacteria on our bodies and some of us could actually be MRSA carriers and not know it. I think around 2 percent of the population are carriers of MRSA – once again, Isaiah’s got great odds).

Our doctor advised that he is still fine to go to daycare and anywhere else, but we will start giving him ointment in his nose, twice a day for 3 weeks and he will be on antibiotics for another 14 days.

I asked the nurse if this is another lifelong thing and she said basically yes. Basically if Isaiah gets an open wound he will have to get on antibiotics right away. We will also have to be diligent about cleanliness, hygiene, etc.

I’m very much disheartened by this news…considering just putting Isaiah in a bubble to live the rest of his life. Ha! Really, though I know we can handle another “issue”, but pray for my sanity. So many big things for such a small boy to handle...
